The High And Late Middle Ages 1100 - 1523 AD
In the Middle Ages developed class society. Top enthroned royal family and the king’s power was seen as given by God. Below that followed in turn by nobles, clergy, burghers and peasants. Poor and landless never recognized as social class. Solstice Society was dissolved only in the course of the 1800s as a result of industrialization and the beginnings of democratization.
Sigtuna, which had been built at the initiative of the monarchy at the end of the 900s, was in the 1000’s, capital of the Christian mission in Mälardalen. Christianization was a slow process. Only about 1200 was the ecclesiastical organization so strong that the communities could be divided into parishes (parishes) and the parish churches of stone could be built around the lake.

In the mid 1200’s, the foundation Stockholm which quickly developed into the country’s main city, while Sigtuna lost more and more in importance.
During the early Middle Ages the population grew rapidly and the forest areas and islands in the county was settled.
The Black Death in the mid 1300s began a period of recurrent plague epidemics that lasted throughout the later Middle Ages. The population declined drastically. The fighting in the 1400s between the Nordic Union kings and rebellious Swedish storm anna groups concerned and the region around Stockholm also contributed to the difficult living conditions for ordinary people.
