Often known under the name Asatru.

This blog will focus on historical accuracy and reconstructionism but also on the contemporary religion and sometimes wander into other heathenry, like Anglo - Saxon faith, Odinism, Theodism and so on.
There will however never be any bigotry, homophobia, anti Semitism or stupid ideas of a "pure" Germanic race. hello! theme by cissysaurus

Freyas sisters

For some reason there is very little information on them anywhere (and their names often get funny translations).

Freyas sisters are with the same father, Njördr.

  • Bjärt / Bjart  / Bjaert  (pron: Byaert). Her name means “Bright”.
  • Frith. Her name should be obvious but also means “Pretty”.
  • Blid / Blith (“th” pron like in “this”). Her name means “Mild”

And theorized, the rest should be the maidens of Menglöd, making Menglöd Freya herself  (one possable theory).

Menglöð.
  • Blidr
  • Hlif
  • Hlifthursa
  • Thiodvarta
  • Eir
  • Orboda

(See Fjölsvinnsmál )

However this makes it nine, not eight maidens (Freya is supposed to have eight sisters) unless the words “Bjart and Blid” is one person (the fourth maiden)  since those are the only names mentioned with an “and” between them.

Menglöð sits with the nine maidens by Lorenz Frølich.

Menglöd and her maidens are protective and healing and according to Fjölsvidr (Odin) recieves blót.
